I recently did a guest blog post for my friend Karisa’s blog. You can check that out here — it’s actually an updated version of a blog post I shared on here while I was on the Race. If you missed it back then, now’s a great opportunity for you to check it out over at Karisa’s blog.
Today, I came across this video. Someone may be struggling with this, so I wanted to share truth here today.
Suicide is a liar. Depression is a liar. These things are real and inspire real feelings that people can and do experience, but the promises those feelings make are LIES. You will not feel better if you fill-in-the-blank: cut, take pills, jump off a bridge or overpass, whatever the fantasy may look like in your mind. You won’t be better off. Your family, friends, and acquaintances won’t be better off.
The guy in the above video wanted nothing more than to die, so he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge. As SOON as he was airborne, the fog lifted, and he was filled with regret. Very thankful he survived to share this story.
Don’t believe the lies of suicide or depression. If you are experiencing those feelings, seek professional help NOW. I also encourage you to call on Jesus, who can bring you peace in the storm and eventually deliver you of it all when you’re ready to walk out that level of deliverance. And if you don’t know how to call on Jesus, call on someone who knows him and ask them to pray for you. It may seem menial, but don’t believe that lie either — prayer is powerful.
